Constitutive modelling of creep and stress relaxation

(流变及应力松弛的本构建模)

Prof. Erich Bauer
Institute of Applied Mechanics, Graz University of Technology, 8010 Graz, Austria

Content:In this lecture rheological properties of materials are described based on rational continuum mechanics. Particular attention is paid on the developing of constitutive equations and the determination of the material parameters based on experiments. Tensor and indical notation is used for the mathematical representation of the constitutive models. For participants not familiar with tensor analysis a brief introduction and a script will be provided. The lecture is divided into four units with the following subtopics:

Unit 1 (September, 22, 2016, 14:00-17:00):
Classification of constitutive models for materials with rate independent and rate dependent behaviour. Brief introduction to tensor algebra and tensor functions. Handling with symbolic and indical notation.

Unit 2 (September, 23, 2016, 14:00-17:00):
Introduction to continuum mechanics. Kinematics, polar decomposition of the deformation gradient, strain measures (small and large strains), stress measures, velocity gradient, rate of deformation and spin.

Unit 3 (September, 26, 2016, 14:00-17:00):
Hyper-Elasticity, linear and non-linear Hook formulation, viso-elasticity. One-dimensional introduction and generalisation to 3-D of the Maxwell-model, Kelvin model and Burgers model.

Unit 4 (September, 27, 2016, 14:00-17:00):
Concept of the solid hardness as a key parameter for modelling grain crushing, creep and stress relaxation of weathered rockfill material. Embedding of the concept of the solid hardness into hypoplasticity. Comparing of the performance of the model with experiments.
